The toothed rack protruding from the steering gear housing on the right and left is protected by rubber cuffs. Both cuffs must be moisture- and dust-proof. Wet cuffs must be replaced immediately: since penetrating dirt or moisture will quickly turn the lubricant in the steering gear into an abrasive paste, which will immediately finish off the steering gear.

ORDER OF EXECUTION |
- Shine a flashlight through the pleated cuffs.
- Turn the steering gear fully right and left and pull out one seal, then the other. Are there any cracks?
- The clamps 1 and 2 on both cuffs must sit securely.
The steering gear cuffs above the axle beam are relatively well protected from external influences. However, with the front wall removed, occasionally glance at them and at the same time check the clamping clamps 1 and 2 for a secure fit. |
