SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Raise the car in a horizontal position and secure it on supports, the wheels should turn freely.

2. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, then to the right. Rotate the wheel located on the outer turning radius by hand and check the condition of the protective covers of both constant velocity joints for cracks and damage.

If dirt and moisture penetrate the hinge, it will fail in a short time. To check the protective cover of the inner joint, the assistant should slowly rotate the wheel.

3. Check the reliability of the protective covers fastening with clamps (pic. 12.13). Clamps are tightened with a side pin (arrow). To do this, bend the protrusion in the form of a letter squeezed from the sides «ABOUT» and insert it into the collar. Tighten firmly with the side pin until the case stops moving. The drive shaft at the place where the protective boot is attached must be very clean.

4. Oil tracks on the protective cover - an alarm, as the hinge lubricant flows out, and dirt and moisture enter the hinge and quickly damage it. At the factory, each ball joint is filled with 40 g of special grease MoS2 (SM-1C75-A; SQH-1C9004-A).

5. Replace damaged protective covers immediately. To do this, it is necessary to remove and disassemble the drive shaft.
