1. To fill the gearbox with thick transmission oil, you need a special pump, which is available in car repair shops. If the transmission oil level is very low (below 20 mm from the lower edge of the filler/inspection hole) or when changing the oil using a funnel and hose or an oiler, add transmission oil to a level of at least 10 mm from the edge of the hole.

2. Screw in and tighten the plug securely (Fig. 12.8).

Gearbox noises
Over time, the gearbox may make noises that need to be addressed. In Ford Fiesta cars, gearbox noises are mostly found in cars with high mileage. Before you start expensive repairs, first check the transmission oil level.
If, while driving, noise appears from the gearbox (grinding and squealing) only in one gear, it means that the driven gears or their bearings are worn out.
Extraneous noise in all gears indicates wear of the main gear or differential bearings.
Knocks that are heard only when the gearbox is warmed up indicate a failure of the synchronizer locking ring. The synchronizer rings of the 2nd and 3rd gears are subject to the most intensive wear. With liquid oil, knocks from the synchronizer locking ring will always be heard in the same place.
