If your car's gears are sticking or shifting incorrectly, for a new car, this probably means that the gearshift mechanism is not adjusted correctly (workshop must perform adjustment under warranty), and for an old car, this may be a sign of wear on the gearshift mechanism (pic. 12.4). In both cases, the problem can be fixed without much difficulty. Before starting work, check if the shift rods are bent and if the play in the bearings is increased.

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Engage fourth gear.

2. Raise the vehicle and secure it on stands.

3. Turn out a fixing bolt on a shaft under the car and remove from a shaft draught of a gear change (pic. 12.5).

Pic. 12.6. Use of a rod (2) for fixing the shaft (1) gear shifting in the middle position (the arrow points in the direction in which the shaft is pressed into the gearbox)

4. To fix the shift shaft in the middle position with a suitable pin 2 (pic. 12.6) turn the transmission shaft back and forth.

5. In this position, fully press the shift shaft into the gearbox.

6. Put the shift rod back on the gearbox shaft. Pre-wash the clamping surfaces from grease and oil.

Pic. 12.7. Drill use (3) with a diameter of 9 mm for fixing the lever (1) gear shifting in the body (2)

7. Move the shift lever to the fourth gear position and insert the rod or drill from below (9 mm) into the shift lever housing to fix it in the gear shift housing (pic. 12.7).

8. Tighten the bolt securing the gearshift rod to the gearbox shaft (tightening torque 25 Nm). The shift shaft must not turn.

9. Remove the stopper (rod or drill) from the shift lever housing.

10. Check up smoothness and ease of gear shifting. Repeat the shift adjustment process if necessary.
