SEQUENCE OF WORKS
1. Apply the parking brake. Loosen the wheel nuts.
2. Raise the front of the car on a level surface and secure it on supports. Remove the front wheel.
3. Loosen the bolts, remove the caliper and secure it in the wheel well with soft wire so that the brake hose does not stretch or twist.

4. Disconnect the drive shaft from the gearbox flange (Fig. 12.14). To prevent transmission oil from leaking out, cover the holes in the gearbox with a clean rag.
5. Unscrew the hub nut with the U-shaped washer.
6. Use a puller to push the ball joint pin of the tie rod end out of the steering knuckle.
7. Unscrew the lower mount of the shock absorber strut to the steering knuckle.

8. Using a strong puller, press the drive shaft out of the front wheel hub (Fig. 12.15).
Be careful not to damage the constant velocity joints when installing.
9. Tilt the steering knuckle outward from the vehicle and carefully remove the shaft from the wheel hub or gearbox.
10. When installing, avoid unnecessary loads on constant velocity joints, the angle of rotation of the joint should not exceed the permissible one. Do not damage the protective cover of the joint.
11. New or replacement shafts are supplied in protective cages. The cages are removed only after the drive shaft has been installed. Never use a screwdriver, as this may damage the protective cover.
12. When installing, lubricate the drive shaft threads.
13. Insert the shaft into the steering knuckle bearing and gearbox.
14. Install the wheel hub onto the V-shaped splines of the drive shaft and use the special Ford 14-022 tool to install it onto the drive shaft until it stops.
15. Place the washer on the hub and screw on the new nut by hand.
16. Install the brake caliper.
17. If you drained the gearbox oil before installation, fill it up to the required level.
18. From the gearbox side, insert the drive shaft with a new washer until it locks into place (clicks). To do this, press hard on the wheel.
19. Install the wheel and lower the vehicle. Disconnect and remove the constant velocity joint guards.
20. Press the brake pedal and tighten the wheel hub mounting nut to a torque of 205–235 N·m.
