Shock absorber (15 791 0) — removal and installation

Withdrawal


3-, 4- and 5-door version

1. Disconnect the cargo area trim panel and position it to the side.

CAUTION: Use an Allen wrench to prevent piston rod from turning.


Remove the upper shock absorber mounting nut.



All cars

3. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

3-, 4- and 5-door version

4. Remove shock absorber.



"station wagon"

NOTE: When removing the left shock absorber, the exhaust system must be disconnected from the rear outboard support.


Disconnect the exhaust system from the rear outboard support.

NOTE: When removing the left shock absorber, the exhaust heat shield must be removed.



Remove the exhaust system heat shield.



7. Remove the upper shock absorber mounting bolt.



8. Remove shock absorber.



Installation


"station wagon"

1.
NOTE: Final tightening of the suspension components should be done with the vehicle resting on its own wheels.


Install the lower shock absorber mounting bolt.




Vehicles with load-adjustable shock absorbers

NOTE: Make sure the tab on the upper shock mount is facing out.


Install shock absorber.



Body variant "station wagon"

3. Establish the top bolt of fastening of the shock-absorber.

NOTE: After installing the left shock absorber, the exhaust system heat shield must be installed.



Install the exhaust heat shield.



5.
NOTE: After installing the left shock absorber, the exhaust system must be connected to the rear outboard support.


Connect the exhaust system to the rear suspension support.



6. Lower the car.

NOTE: Final tightening of the suspension components should be done with the vehicle resting on its own wheels.


Tighten the lower shock absorber mounting bolt.



3-, 4-, 5-door version

NOTE: Final tightening of the suspension components should be done with the vehicle resting on its own wheels.


Install the lower shock absorber mounting bolt.



9.
NOTE: Guide the shock strut into the mounting hole.


Lower the car.



10.
CAUTION: Use an Allen wrench to prevent piston rod from turning.

Install the upper shock absorber mounting nut.



11. Connect the cargo area trim panel.

12.
NOTE: Final tightening of the suspension components should be done with the vehicle resting on its own wheels.


Tighten the lower shock absorber mounting bolt.
