Regular check of steering free play

The steering free play of your Focus is being adjusted. At least when it comes to normal wear and tear, not a malfunction. But entrust the adjustment to the workshop - professionals on site have the necessary measuring tools for this. If there is a need, then you can carry out the test yourself on an equal rocky or asphalt surface.

Stages of work

Set the wheels straight.

Reach your hand through the open side window and jerk the steering wheel back and forth.

At the same time, keep an eye on the left front wheel, even better on its side edge, it should rhythmically echo the movements. The elastic splint may slow down movement slightly.

If you didn’t set the free play during rectilinear movement, but found jamming with a stronger turn of the steering wheel, then the gear rack has worn out. In this case, replace the entire steering gear.
