Control Factor — Front Axle Geometry

            0

Correct wheel alignment is critical to whether your vehicle follows the front wheels securely on a straight road or in curves. Even one powerful blow to a curbstone can noticeably break the geometry of the front axle. Knocked-out hinges and rubber bearings or unprofessional repairs are equally detrimental to driving performance. Always provide a workshop with a stand for checking the alignment of the steered wheels with optical inspection. Although the front wheels are not adjusted, you, as an attentive driver, can detect for yourself. But only if both front tires are from the same manufacturer and have a comparable profile depth and prescribed air pressure. Check the base and watch for the following symptoms:
  • The unexpectedly oblique steering position is an irrefutable sign of crooked front wheels. Always make sure that the steering wheel is also straight when driving in a straight line.
  • Are the front wheels of your Focus also straight when the steering wheel is straight?
  • If you let go of your hands, does your car drive in a straight line on a flat road? Or does it go left or right?
  • Does the steering wheel return to straight when exiting a turn?
  • Are tires worn evenly? Do you see different wear on the edges of the profile?
