Checking the steering play (Fiesta 4)

It is better to leave the adjustment of the steering play of the Fiesta to a car repair shop, as it has the necessary measuring tool. You can check the play yourself after installing the car on a flat asphalt area.



SEQUENCE OF WORKS

The check is carried out with the engine off. Set the front wheels to move straight ahead.

Lower the driver's side door window, grab the steering wheel through the open window and turn it slightly left and right.

Does the left front wheel turn from a straight ahead position? Pay attention to the rim, as a flexible tire can deform before it turns.

If you have established that there is no play when the wheels are in the straight-ahead position, but there is jamming when the steering wheel is turned at a large angle, this means that the toothed rack is worn out. In this case, it is necessary to replace the steering gear assembly.
