Checking ball joints and dust covers of tie rod ends (Fiesta 4)

            0

On the right and left between the steering rod and the steering knuckle arm are the steering rod ends with ball joints. The steel spherical head of the joint is covered by a self-lubricating plastic bushing, and a protective cover filled with special grease protects it from dirt and moisture. Replace the ball joints of the steering rod ends with a damaged protective cover or large play immediately.

SEQUENCE OF WORKS

1. Check the ball joint boots of the tie rod ends for external damage (e.g. cracks).

2. Check the play of the ball joints. It is best to do this over an inspection ditch.

3. The assistant should turn the steering wheel sharply and repeatedly to the left and to the right. At the same time, you can check with your hand whether there is any play in the ball joints of the steering rods.
