Checking the dust caps of the steering rods and axle joints (Mondeo 1)

Raise the car from the front.

Shine a light on the dust caps on the right and left and check for damage, paying attention to traces of grease on the cuffs and near them.

Check the cuffs for cracks, cuts and tightness of fastening.

Check the hinge mounting nut and the locking pin for tightness without turning the nut.

For the axial joint, pay particular attention to the tightness of the installation in the clamp of the pivot pin. The pivot pin should be almost invisible. The correct mounting position of the pivot pin is shown in Fig. F-6251.

If the dust cap is damaged, replace the joint with the protective cap for safety reasons. Dirt penetrating through the damaged protective cap will destroy the joint.

Lower the car to the ground.
