Checking the anti-dust caps of steering rods and axle joints

            0

Raise the car in front.

Tie rod joint

Axial hinge

Light the dust caps with a lamp on the right and left and check for damage, paying attention to traces of grease on and near the cuffs.

Check cuffs for cracks, cuts and tightness.

Check the pivot nut and the locking cotter pin for firm seating without turning the nut.

For an axle joint, pay special attention to the tightness of the installation in the clamp of the pivot pin. The hinge pin should be practically invisible. The correct mounting position of the pivot pin is shown in fig. F-6251.

If the dust cap is damaged, for safety reasons, replace the hinge with the dust cap. Dirt penetrating through a damaged protective cap destroys the hinge.

Lower the car to the ground.
