Checking the tread depth of your tires (Mondeo 1)

Tires on balanced wheels, with the prescribed air pressure, correct wheel installation and good shock absorption, wear evenly over the entire tread surface. If tires wear unevenly, see the troubleshooting section in the "Tires". In general, it is difficult to accurately determine the service life of tires, since it depends on the specific operating conditions of the vehicle, namely:

• Highway surfaces.
• Air pressure in tires.
• Driving style.
• Weather conditions.

Severe wear of tires is primarily caused by high-speed driving, abrupt starting and strong braking.

Attention! Traffic regulations allow tire wear only to a profile depth of 1.6 mm, i.e. the profile relief along the entire tread must be at least 1.6 mm. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended to replace tires already at a profile depth of 2 mm.

If the profile depth approaches 1.6 mm, then in these places there is no longer any profile, and the tires should soon be replaced.

Please note: M+S tyres function normally in snow and ice if their minimum profile depth is 4 mm.

Attention! Examine the tires for cuts and measure the depth of the cuts with a small screwdriver. If the cuts reach the carcass, then the steel cord is corroded due to moisture penetration. In this case, the tread may separate from the carcass, and the tire may break. Therefore, if the tread is cut deeply, replace the tire for safety reasons.
