Disk wheels, stamped:
  • made of steel, size 41/2x13.5x13 (except coupe XR3 and RS);
  • light alloy in size 51/2x14 for XR3 and 6x15 for RS. Tires size 145 SR13. 155SR13,175/70SR/HR13 (except coupe XR3 and RS). 185/60 HR14 for XR3 and 190/50 HR15 for RS. Every 10,000 km of run, but at least once a year, it is necessary to check the value of the end runout of the wheels, the tightening torques of the rim fastening bolts.

The operation of tires is allowed up to such a tread height from which it begins to lose its pronounced relief. Pressure in the chambers of the front and rear wheels of Ford cars «Escort» should be 1.8 kgf/cm2 when driving at medium speeds or 2.0 kgf/cm2 for the front wheels and 2.3 kgf/cm2 for rear when driving at high speeds and with a full transport weight. The tire pressure must be checked with cold tires before every long journey.

The air pressure in the spare tire is set equal to the air pressure in the rear wheels.

ATTENTION: When balancing the front wheels on a car, the wheel to be balanced must be spun only by the engine and up to a speed corresponding to a speed of no more than 70 km/h. It is FORBIDDEN to block or brake the opposite wheel during the balancing process.


Wheel replacement


NOTE: The spare wheel is located in the luggage compartment on the left side, the jack and wrench are under the spare wheel.

  • Place the car on a flat and horizontal platform;
  • take out the spare tire and check the pressure.
  • apply the parking brake and engage reverse gear;
  • insert the jack as far as possible into the appropriate socket, give it a vertical position, setting the upper part as close as possible to the side of the vehicle (pic. 17);
  • loosen the bolts securing the wheel to the hub;
  • turning the jack handle on a pop-turn clockwise and returning it to its original state, hang out the wheel completely;
  • check the reliability of the installation of the lower support of the jack on the ground;
  • unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the wheel;
  • install the spare wheel and screw in the mounting bolts until they stop, without tightening them completely. Lower the wheel to the ground and remove the jack.



Finally tighten the fixing bolts.

NOTE: At the earliest opportunity, the spare wheel should be repaired and inflated to 1.8 (2.3 when operating at high speeds with full transport weight).
