Replacement of linings of brake disks

            0

Brake linings are always changed in pairs on both sides of the axle. Otherwise, this will lead to the appearance of different coefficients of friction on the brake discs, which later, with full braking, will surely throw the car out of the rut. Under the influence of heat for the first 500 km, the brake linings change the structure of their material: give the segments time «sit down» and at first avoid, if possible, full braking. Otherwise, the brake linings will quickly harden («glazed») and later will never be able to have their standard coefficients of friction. Also, pay close attention to ensure that replacement brake pads have the operating and ABE approval for your vehicle. Stay away from questionable junk yards and better protect yourself by buying original parts from a Ford dealer.

Front Disc Brake Details: 1 - brake disc; 2 - clamp; 3 - outer lining; 4 - inner lining; 5 - retaining shield; 6 - bleed valve; 7 - bolt; 8 - brake caliper; 9 - mounting bracket.

Dismantling on the front axle

Raise the front of the vehicle securely on a level surface. Remove the wheels.

Remove the brake hose from the holder.

Loosen the outer retaining spring.

Before removing the brake caliper, pull it outward to loosen the piston.

Dismantle the brake caliper - remove covers 1, unscrew fixing bolts 2.

To unload the brake hose, hang the brake caliper with welding wire in the wheel arch.

Pull the brake lining out through the retaining tabs on the retaining spring.

Remove the outer cover.

Remove the inner lining.

Brake caliper fixing bolts

Front axle mounting

Pull back the brake piston with the special tool «Ford 206-005 (12-014)» or a suitable pusher.

Attention: you displace the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder. Wash off any spilled liquid immediately with water.

Lightly touch up the brake disc with sandpaper.

Insert the inner brake lining.

Install the outer brake lining.

Pull the mounting spring over the mounting tabs.

Mount the brake caliper (tighten the bolts to 28 Nm), install covers.

Brake tube fixing spring

Mount the brake hose on the holder.

Attach the retaining spring correctly.

Mount the wheels.

Put the car on wheels.

Press the brake pedal until you feel resistance. Only now the pads are adjacent to the brake disc.

Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank. If necessary, aspirate it with a pipette to the MAX mark or add fresh liquid to the MAX mark.

Brake carefully with new pads. On secondary roads, brake gently from 100 km/h to 50 km/h several times. Let the brakes cool down in between.

Dismantling on the rear axle

Raise the rear of the vehicle securely on a level surface. Remove the wheels.

Remove the handbrake cable from lever 2. Before doing this, pull back the lever 1. Remove the clip 3. Remove the handbrake cable and guide 4.

Disconnect the handbrake cable

Unscrew the brake caliper fixing bolts and hang the brake caliper on the welding wire in the wheel housing to avoid damage to the brake hose.

Remove the brake segments.

Rear axle mounting

Pull back the brake piston with the special tool «Ford 206-012 (12-006)» or a suitable pusher.

Attention: you displace the brake fluid from the brake master cylinder. Wash off any spilled liquid immediately with water.

Mount the brake pads. To do this, make sure that the mounting springs are installed correctly in the brake caliper.

Mount the brake caliper (tighten the fixing bolts to 35 Nm).

Attach the handbrake cable. Track correctness of an arrangement of a directing cable of a manual brake. Mount the clamp.

Put the wheels on, then proceed in the same way as when working on the front axle.
