Hand brake — general information

With handbrake (parking brake) you prevent a parked Focus from rolling unintentionally, or lock it down when driving uphill. By means of a handbrake lever with cables, it exerts a mechanical effect on the rear wheels. The engaged handbrake lever tightens the cables, actuates the lever on the brake caliper, and finally acts on the rotary cam. In order to automatically equalize brake lining wear, the adjusting device in the rear brake caliper shifts the so-called piston set screw. You will install the tensioner if you pull the handbrake lever several times in succession.
