Disassembly and assembly of the steering gear

            0

Disassembly

1. Disconnect the ball joints from the tie rods after loosening the locknuts.

2. Remove the clamps securing the casings and move the protective casing of the steering gear housing.

3. Move the gear rack to the left as far as it will go and clamp it in a vice with soft jaws.

4. Using an appropriate wrench, unscrew the steering rods from the gear rack.

5. Remove the pushrod cover from the steering gear cover, remove the gasket, shims, spring and pushrod.

6. Remove the steering gear cover with its gasket.

7. Remove bearing from steering gear shaft.

8. Remove the toothed rack from the transmission housing.

9. Remove the nylon guide ring from the right side of the steering gear housing.

Assembly

1. Clean and check the technical condition of all parts; replace worn or damaged parts.

2. Insert the nylon guide ring on the right side of the steering gear housing into the housing.

3. Attach the gear rack to the steering gear housing and set the rack in the middle position.

4. Install the drive gear into the steering gear housing with the bearing.

5. Install the gasket and drive gear housing cover.

6. Install the tappet in the steering gear housing.

7. Install dial gauge with bracket (15.046 and 13.008).

8. Set the sensor arrow on the marking plate to zero.

9. Install the sensor on the pusher, and rest its measuring tip against the steering gear housing.

10. Record reading (A) during the movement of the gear rack from one extreme position to another.

11. Thickness (E) gaskets to be installed under the pusher cover are determined in millimeters based on the expression:

E \u003d A j + F

Where:
A - indication of the indicator type sensor;
j = 0.14 mm - gasket thickness;
F = 0.015... 0.150 mm - structural clearance.

12. Install the pusher spring, shims of the calculated thickness, gasket, cover and tighten the cover bolts.

13. Using a dynamometer, check the moment of resistance while turning the steering gear (see subsection 7.1).

14. Move the gear rack in the housing to the left as far as it will go and clamp it in a vice with soft cheeks.

15. Connect the tie rods to the gear rack and put on the protective casing of the transmission housing.

16. Install new shroud clamps.

17. Connect the ball joint ends to the steering rods and secure them against unscrewing.
