The throttle valve potentiometer provides the control unit with information about the angular position of the throttle valve.

The idle switch provides the control unit with information about the position of the throttle valve at idle.

The idle air control valve regulates the amount of air supplied at idle bypassing the throttle. As a result, a constant engine speed is always maintained during idling, regardless of the activation of additional power consumers such as the power steering pump or the air conditioning compressor.

The coolant temperature sensor is a film resistance thermometer (NTC). Its resistance varies with the temperature of the coolant

The intake air temperature sensor is also a film resistance thermometer.

The crankcase ventilation system includes a container with activated carbon and a solenoid valve. Gasoline vapors formed during heating in the fuel tank accumulate in the activated carbon filter. When the engine is running, fuel vapors are sucked out of the activated carbon tank and discharged into the engine cylinders for combustion.

Oxygen sensor (lambda sensor) measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gases and sends a corresponding voltage signal to the engine control unit.

Engines up to 8/94 only, the starting fuel solenoid valve injects additional fuel into the fuel rail to aid in starting a cold engine. The operating time of the starting fuel valve is controlled by a time delay thermostat. An electrically heated secondary air damper stabilizes engine speed during engine warm-up.
