OHC and V6 engines



1. Remove the negative cable from the battery.

2. Disconnect the multi-pin connector from the ignition distributor.

3. On V6 models, apply alignment marks between distributor housing and engine. Loosen the ignition distributor mounting bolt and turn the ignition distributor to access the ignition unit mounting screws.



4. Unscrew the two screws securing the ignition unit (indicated by arrows), slide the block down and remove it from the ignition distributor.

5. Apply Ford 815F-12103-AA Thermal Conductive Paste to the rear of the unit before reinstalling.

6. Install the ignition unit in place and secure with two screws.

7. On V6 models, return the ignition distributor to its original position, check the ignition timing, and tighten the mounting bolt.

8. Connect the ignition distributor multi-pin connector.

DOHC engine



DOHC Engine Ignition Block





The ignition unit is located in the left front corner of the engine compartment, near the air filter housing.

1. Remove the negative cable from the battery.

2. To improve access, remove the air filter housing.

3. Remove the connector from the ignition unit.

4. Unscrew the two screws and remove the block from the engine compartment.
