OHC and V6 engines



1. Remove the negative cable from the battery.

2. Disconnect the multi-pin connector from the ignition distributor.

3. On V6 models, make alignment marks between the distributor housing and the engine. Loosen the distributor mounting bolt and rotate the distributor to access the ignition unit mounting screws.

4. Unscrew the two screws securing the ignition unit (indicated by arrows), move the unit down and remove it from the ignition distributor.

5. Before installing in place, apply Ford 815F-12103-AA thermal paste to the rear of the block.

6. Install the ignition unit in place and secure with two screws.

7. On V6 models, return the distributor to its original position, check the ignition timing, and tighten the mounting bolt.

8. Connect the multi-pin connector of the ignition distributor.

The ignition unit is located in the left front corner of the engine compartment, near the air filter housing.



1. Remove the negative cable from the battery.

2. To improve access, remove the air filter housing.

3. Remove the connector from the ignition unit.

4. Unscrew the two screws and remove the unit from the engine compartment.
