On engines with a carburetor without air conditioning, the mechanical fuel pump is installed on the left side of the engine.

Removal and installation

1. To check the pump, disconnect the primary winding wires of the ignition coil.

2. Remove the discharge hose from the pump.

3. Turn the engine over with the starter. A stream of fuel should flow out of the pump. Otherwise, the pump is faulty and must be removed.

4. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

5. Remove the feed and discharge hoses from the pump.

5. Remove the feed and discharge hoses from the pump.

6. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the pump (indicated by the arrow) from the cylinder block.

6. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the pump (indicated by the arrow) from the cylinder block.

7. If necessary, remove the plunger (indicated by the arrow).

7. If necessary, remove the plunger (indicated by the arrow).

8. Unscrew the screw and remove the cover (1) and nylon mesh filter (2).

9. Wash the cap, filter and pump in gasoline.

9. Wash the cap, filter and pump in gasoline.

10. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. In this case, install the cover on the pump so that the marks (indicated by arrows) are aligned, and tighten the screw.

The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank and is attached together with the fuel level sensor. Special equipment is required to check the pump.

Removal and installation

1. Remove the fuel tank.

1. Remove the fuel tank.

2. Unscrew the fuel pump/fuel level sensor unit (1 – fuel pump, 2 – fuel level sensor) from the fuel tank using the Ford special tool (№23-014) or two Phillips screwdrivers. Remove the gasket.

3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

All engines with fuel injection and carburetor with air conditioning use an electric fuel pump. The pump is installed under the cars immediately behind the gas tank. If the fuel pump fails, first check the corresponding fuses and relays.

To check the engine pump with a carburetor, disconnect the fuel supply hose from the pressure regulator and lower it into a measuring vessel. Turn on the ignition for 30 seconds and measure the amount of fuel pumped during this time, which should be at least 400 cm³.

To check the pump of an engine with a fuel injection system, special equipment is required.

Removal and installation

1. Remove the ground wire from the battery.

2. Raise the front of the car.

3. Use a clamp to pinch the hose going from the fuel tank to the pump.

4. Place a suitable container under the pump, relieve the pressure in the fuel system and disconnect the feed and pressure hoses from the pump.

5. Remove the electrical connector from the pump.

6. Unscrew the pump clamp mounting bolt and remove the pump.
