Replacing and adjusting the tension of the drive belt

            0

1. Remove ground wire from battery.

2. On vehicles with air conditioning, remove the compressor drive belt.

3. On vehicles with OHC engines, loosen the alternator belt tension adjuster bolts.

4. On vehicles with V6 engines, loosen the mounting bolt and the bolt on the pump adjusting bar. Turn the pump towards the engine and remove the drive belt.

5. Check the condition of the drive belt for cracks, delaminations and other mechanical damage and replace if necessary. If two drive belts are installed, both belts must be replaced even if one of the belts is in good condition.

6. The belt tension is adjusted by turning the generator or pump away from the engine and fixing it in this position by tightening the bolts on the adjusting bar. The belt tension should be such that when the belt is pressed with moderate force, the belt deflection is 10 mm.
