Withdrawal


All cars

1.
NOTE: Make sure the drive wheels are pointing straight ahead.


Set the steering gear to the center position and lock it in this position.



Vehicles manufactured up to 12.1998

2. Disconnect a shaft of a steering column from the steering mechanism.
  • 1. Loosen the top bolt.
  • 2. Turn out the lower bolt.
  • 3. Raise the bushing.



Vehicles manufactured since 12.1998

3. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering mechanism.
  • Discard the bolt as it is no longer needed.



All cars


4. Drain the power steering fluid.
  • Remove the tank.
  • Let the liquid drain into a suitable container.



5. Remove the front wheels complete with tires. See Section 204-04 for more information.

CAUTION: Leave the tie rod nuts in place to protect the ball joint studs.


Loosen the tie rod end nuts on both sides.

CAUTION: Use a soft cloth to cover the ball joint seal to prevent damage.


Using the special tool, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle on both sides.
  • Remove the nuts securing the tie rod ends and discard them as no longer needed.

NOTE: Using a 5mm socket wrench, prevent the ball joint from turning.



Disconnect the anti-roll bar link arm from the anti-roll bar on both sides.



9.
CAUTION: Use a soft cloth to cover the ball joint seal to prevent damage.


Disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the steering knuckle on both sides.
  • Remove heat shields.



10. Turn out the central bolt of fastening of a basic pillow of the engine to a transmission in the block with the leading bridge.



11. Remove steering gear heat shield (two bolts).




12. Release the power steering line from the clamp.



13. Disconnect the power steering line from the steering gear.
  • 1. Turn out a bolt.
  • 2. Turn the power steering line clamp clockwise.
  • Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.



14. Support the cross member using a suitable transmission jack.


15. Turn out bolts of fastening of a crossbar (support removed for clarity).



16. Remove the cross member.



Installation


All cars

1.
CAUTION: Make sure cross member ball bearing washers are installed correctly.


Using a suitable gearbox jack and the special tool, install the cross member and align it.
  • 1. Insert dowel pins into cross member alignment holes and washers.
  • 2. Install the locking bars onto the washers and into the groove of the tool, and then tighten the dowel pin bushing
  • 3. Raise the cross member by inserting the dowel pins into the chassis alignment holes.

CAUTION: Do not move the cross member when tightening the cross member mounting bolts.


Install cross member bolts (support removed for clarity).



3. Lower and remove the transmission jack.

4. Remove cross member dowel pins.

5.
NOTE: Check O-rings for wear, cuts or cracks.


Install new O-rings if necessary.



6. Connect the power steering lines to the steering gear.
  • Turn the power steering line clamp counterclockwise.



7. Fix a highway of the amplifier of a steering in a clip.



8. Install steering gear heat shield (two bolts).



9. Establish the central bolt of fastening of a basic pillow of the engine to a transmission in the block with the driving axle.

CAUTION: Make sure a heat shield is installed to prevent damage to the ball joint.


Connect the heat shield on both sides.



11. Connect the lower arm ball joint to the steering knuckle on both sides.

NOTE: Using a 5mm socket wrench, prevent the ball joint from turning.


Connect the anti-roll bar link arm to the anti-roll bar on both sides.



13.
NOTE: Install new nuts.


Connect the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles on both sides.



14. Establish forward wheels in gathering with tires. See Section 204-04 for more information.

15.
WARNING: Make sure the front wheels are straight ahead.


Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear shaft.



Vehicles manufactured since 12.1998

16.
WARNING: Install a new bolt. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.


WARNING: Make sure the front wheels are straight ahead.


Connect the steering column shaft to the steering gear shaft.



All cars

17. Fill in a working liquid in system of the amplifier of a steering and remove air from system. See Section 211-00 for more information.
