WARNING: To minimize the risk of injury if the air bag deploys prematurely, always carry the charged air bag module with the air bag and trim cover facing away from your torso. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.
WARNING: To minimize the possibility of premature deployment, charged air bag modules should only be placed on grounded workbenches with the decorative cover facing up. Failure to follow these instructions could result in injury.
WARNING: Deployment of air bag modules and deployment of seat belt pretensioners must be performed in well-ventilated areas. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.
WARNING: Before initiating air bag deployment or seat belt pretensioner deployment, make sure all personnel working in the vicinity are warned that a loud noise (bang) will occur. Do not allow anyone to approach within 20 feet. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.
WARNING: Do not touch the air bag module or seat belt pretensioner immediately after deployment/deployment because the air bag module or seat belt pretensioner will be very hot. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.
WARNING: Once activated, the gas generator(s) will be safe, but avoid direct contact of pyrotechnic device products with the skin or eyes. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.
WARNING: Always wear protective gloves and eyewear when handling deployed air bag modules and seat belt pretensioners. Failure to follow these instructions could result in injury.
WARNING: If air bag module or seat belt pretensioner pyrotechnic product comes into contact with your eyes, immediately rinse your eyes thoroughly with clean water and seek medical attention. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.
WARNING: If large amounts of air bag module or seat belt pretensioner pyrotechnics are inhaled, seek medical attention. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.
1. Remove the air bag module(s) to be deployed. For more information, refer to the appropriate procedure(s) in this section.
- 2. Connect the special tools as shown in the figure
- 1. Battery, 12V
2. Adapter (AC) (Airbag module/pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioner test/deployment initiation connecting wire element).
3. Connecting wire (Connecting wire element for checking/deployment initiation of the air bag module/pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioner).

Single stage airbag modules
3. Connect the connecting wire to the airbag module and to the adapter. For more information, refer to the Specifications chapter in this section.

4.
CAUTION: To protect the connectors of the connecting wires from damage when deploying the module, raise the air bag module off the ground using two wooden blocks.
Place the air bag module inside a suitable rigid wire frame with the air bag module cover facing up (driver air bag shown).

5. To deploy the driver or passenger air bag module, release the AC adapter button.

6. To deploy the side airbag module, press the AC adapter button.

7. Move as far away from the air bag module as possible and press both switches to deploy the air bag module.

Dual stage airbag modules
8.
WARNING: DO NOT connect both test leads to the adapter at this stage. Each gas generator must be initiated separately. Failure to follow this instruction may result in injury.
Connect the test leads to the airbag module and one of the test leads to the adapter. For more information, refer to the Specifications chapter in this section.

9.
CAUTION: To protect the connectors of the connecting wires from damage when deploying the module, raise the air bag module off the ground using two wooden blocks.
Place the air bag module inside a suitable rigid wire frame with the air bag module cover facing up (driver air bag shown).

10. To initiate deployment of the first inflator of the driver or passenger air bag module, release the AC button on the adapter.

11. Move as far away from the air bag module as possible and press both switches to deploy the air bag module.

12. To initiate deployment of the second driver or passenger air bag module inflator, connect the second test lead to the adapter.

13. Move as far away from the air bag module as possible and press both switches to deploy the air bag module.

Cars with seat belt tensioners
14.
NOTE: Some vehicles require removal of the front seat to access the seat belt pretensioner connector.
Remove the front seat (if necessary). For additional information, refer to Section 501-10.
15. Disconnect the seat belt tensioner connector from the front seat.
16. Install the front seat (if necessary). For additional information, refer to Section 501-10.
17.
CAUTION: Make sure the front seat mounting bolts are installed.
Connect the connecting wire to the seat belt pretensioner connector. For more information, refer to the Specifications chapter in this section.

18. To deploy the seat belt tensioner, press the AC button on the adapter.

19. Move as far away from the air bag module as possible and press both switches to initiate deployment of the seat belt pretensioner.

Vehicles with seat belt tensioners.
20. Connect the test lead to the seat belt pretensioner connector.

21. To initiate the deployment of the seat belt tensioner, press the AC button on the adapter.
