Removal and installation an electric fuel pump (Scorpio 2)

Carburetor engine



The electric fuel pump is located under the bottom of the luggage compartment to the left of the fuel tank. According to its design, it is an eccentric vane (plate) pump.

Removal



Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the contents of electronic memory devices, such as engine fault codes or radio codes, are erased. Before disconnecting, also read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".


Place the car on trestles.

Clean the pump and holder from the outside.

Place a fuel-resistant container under the pump.

Place a fuel-resistant container under the pump.


Clamp the fuel supply line "B" with a screw clamp to prevent fuel from leaking out of the tank.

Caution: Do not damage the fuel line.


Loosen the clamp and disconnect the fuel supply line "B" from the fuel pump. Plug the fuel line with a clean bolt of suitable diameter.



Loosen the clamp and disconnect the return fuel line "C" from the fuel pump. Plug the fuel line with a clean bolt of suitable diameter.

Disconnect the multi-pin "D" connector.

Unscrew the mounting bolt of the holder "A" and remove the pump.

Installation



* Clean the fuel line connections and electrical connector.

Insert the fuel pump into the holder and tighten the mounting bolt.

Caution: Check that the rubber gasket is positioned correctly. The pump must not be in direct contact with the holder.


Remove the plugs from the fuel lines and connect the fuel lines to the pump. Check the reliability of the connections and secure the fuel lines with clamps.

Remove the screw clamp from the fuel supply line.

Connect the multi-pin plug connector.

Lower the car.

Connect the ground (-) cable to the battery.

If available, set the clock and enter the radio theft protection code.

Start the engine and check the tightness of the fuel line connection to the pump.

ONS and V6 engines with injection system up to 8/94



The electric fuel pump is located under the bottom of the luggage compartment to the left of the fuel tank. According to its design, it is a vane pump with working elements in the form of rollers.

Removal



Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the contents of electronic memory devices, such as engine fault codes or radio codes, are erased. Before disconnecting, also read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".


Place the car on trestles.



Clean the pump and holder from the outside.

Place a fuel-resistant container under the pump.

Place a fuel-resistant container under the pump.


Clamp the fuel supply line with a screw clamp or a clamp to prevent fuel from leaking out of the tank.

Caution: Do not damage the fuel line.


Loosen the clamp and disconnect the fuel supply line from the fuel pump. Plug the fuel line with a clean bolt of suitable diameter.

Place a rag around the return fuel line "arrow". Carefully release the return fuel line fastening and relieve the fuel pressure. Remove the return fuel line completely.

Mark the electrical wires with tape and disconnect the plug connectors.

Unscrew the holder mounting bolt and remove the pump.

Installation



Clean fuel line connections and electrical connectors.



Insert the fuel pump into the holder and tighten the mounting bolt.

Caution: Check that the rubber gasket is positioned correctly. The pump must not be in direct contact with the holder.


Remove the plug from the fuel supply line and connect the fuel line to the pump. Check the reliability of the connection and secure the fuel line with a clamp.

Attach the return fuel line with two new sealing gaskets and tighten the fastener.

Remove the clamp from the fuel supply line.

Connect the plug connectors in accordance with the marks applied.

Lower the car.

Connect the ground (-) cable to the battery.

If available, set the clock and enter the radio theft protection code.

Start the engine and check the tightness of the fuel line connection to the pump.

DOHC engines with fuel injection system



The electric fuel pump together with the fuel level sensor is located on the holder in the fuel tank.

Removal



Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the contents of electronic memory devices, such as engine fault codes or radio codes, are erased. Before disconnecting, also read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".


Remove the fuel level sensor and fuel pump holder, see p. 54.

Remove the fuel level sensor and fuel pump holder, see p. 54.


Fuel pump "B" can only be replaced together with fuel level sensor "A".



Installation



Install the fuel level sensor and fuel pump holder with a new sealing gasket, see p. 54.

Connect the ground (-) cable to the battery.

If available, set the clock and enter the anti-theft code for the radio.
