Fuel quantity sensor, removal and installation of the fuel pump

            0

The fuel quantity sensor is installed in the tank from above. In gasoline engines, the fuel pump is located on the fuel quantity sensor bracket. If the fuel level in the tank drops, then the float of the fuel quantity sensor in the tank also drops. Due to the sliding contact on the float, the electrical resistance of the sensor increases. As a result, the voltage on the indicator device drops, and the indicator arrow moves in the direction "empty".

The fuel gauge in the tank should be checked if the indicator on the instrument panel shows the wrong amount of fuel.

Prerequisites for testing: Check all electrical wires according to the wiring diagrams, see 20.4.

Attention! Ensure good ventilation of the workplace. Fuel vapors are poisonous, do not use open fire, flammable! Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

Withdrawal

Disconnect the ground wire (-) from the battery.

Attention! As a result, data in electronic storage devices, such as an engine fault memory or a radio code, are erased. Please read the section carefully "Removing and installing the battery", before disconnecting it.

All Wheel Drive Models: There are two fuel quantity/fuel pump sensors. To dismantle, remove the fuel tank, see point 5.3.

Front wheel drive models: remove the cushions from the rear seat, see No. 17.34.

Remove the rubber caps, disconnect the multi-pole plug.

Disconnect the fuel supply and return lines from the fuel tank. To remove the clamp, fully press both buttons on the quick lock and remove it.

Attention! The fuel system in gasoline engines is under pressure. Collect fuel flowing from open fuel lines with a rag. Before removing the fuel lines, mark them with adhesive tape so as not to be confused when connecting.

Unscrew the fuel tank bracket counterclockwise using the Ford special tool 23-038. If there is no such tool, then the fuel level sensor can be removed with a pipe wrench or a hard wooden rod, lightly tapping it with a hammer.

Attention! Avoid sparks - risk of fire!

Pull up the bracket for the fuel quantity sensor in the tank, move it to the side and remove. Place a rag under it and collect the escaping fuel.

Installation

Check the sealing surfaces of the receiver and the bracket for the amount of fuel in the tank, clean them from rust and dirt.

Attention! Dirt must not get into the fuel tank.

Install the fuel gauge bracket in the tank with a new seal, tighten it by turning it clockwise. Connect the multi-pin plug.

All-wheel drive models: install the fuel tank, see point 5.3.

Connect the fuel supply and return lines. Don't mix up the pipes. Make sure the quick-release fasteners are pushed onto the hoses up to the collar.

Drive the rubber nozzles into the bottom of the car and install the rear seat.

Connect the ground wire to the battery. Set the clock and set the radio's anti-theft code.

Check the functions of the fuel indicator on the instrument panel.
