Thermostat replacement

            0

The need to replace the thermostat may arise when the engine temperature is unstable: overheating or insufficient heating.

To check the thermostat on a car, start a cold engine and touch the right (diverting) radiator hose - it should be cold. After the coolant temperature reaches 60°C, the hose should begin to heat up rapidly, indicating the start of fluid circulation in the large circuit. If this does not happen, and the coolant temperature sensor and engine control unit are OK, replace the thermostat.

You will need: socket head «on 10», sliding pliers.

1. Disconnect the wire from the terminal «minus» battery.

2. Drain the liquid from the engine cooling system (cm. «Coolant replacement»).

3. Remove generator (cm. «Removal and installation of the generator»).

Thermostat: 1 - radiator outlet hose; 2, 6, 8 - clamps; 3 – bolts of fastening of the case of the thermostat; 4 - sealing gaskets of the thermostat housing; 5 - thermostat housing; 7 - hose to the outlet pipe of the water jacket; 9 – a liquid hose of a broad tank; 10 – block of a plait of wires of the thermostat

4. Loosen clamps 2, 6 and 8 with sliding pliers (pic. 5.23), slide the clamps along the hoses 1, 7, 9 and remove the hoses from the nozzles of the thermostat housing.

5. Disconnect block 10 of the wiring harness from the thermostat by squeezing the latch of its fastening.

6. Turn out four bolts 3 fastenings of the case of the thermostat to the block of cylinders and remove the thermostat.

7. Remove sealing linings 4 cases of the thermostat.

WARNING: Replace the thermostat housing seals with new ones each time it is removed.

8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. Bolts of fastening of the case of the thermostat tighten in regular intervals crosswise the moment of 9,0 Н·м.

9. Fill liquid into the engine cooling system and remove air from it (cm. «Coolant replacement»).
