Gearshift cables — removal and installation

Withdrawal


1. Standard preparatory procedures:
  • Write down the radio key code.
  • Record preset radio stations.

CAUTION: Disconnect wire "masses" from the battery.


2. Raise the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

3. Disconnect cables of a choice and a gear change from a transmission.
  • Remove the shift cable by turning the support ring counterclockwise.
  • Lower the car.



4. Move the select and shift levers on the transmission to the neutral position (both levers must be in the vertical position).



5. Disconnect the flange connection of the exhaust system and detach the system from the rubber supports.



6. Detach the heat shield and slide it back.


  • Release the shift and select cables from the floor clamps.



7. Lower the car.

8. Remove the shift lever cover.
  • 1. Release the cover.
  • 2. Remove the shift lever handle. Remove damping bushings and compression spring.
  • Disconnect the connectors (quantity and configuration depends on the specific equipment).



9. Remove the central console.



10. Remove the rear footwell heater channel.




11. Disconnect shift and select cables from shift lever.
  • Remove the shift and select cables by turning the support rings counterclockwise.



12. Cut the mat and padding and fold them aside (shown with heat exchanger removed).



13. Disconnect the channel for the shift cables from the floor and pull the cables into the passenger compartment (shown with heat exchanger removed).




Installation


1. Replace the elements in reverse order (shown with heat exchanger removed).

3. Adjust shift and select cables.
  • See Section 308-00 for more information.

4. Standard final operations:
  • Connect wire "masses" to the battery.
  • Enter the radio key code.
  • Reprogram preset radios.
  • Set your clock.
  • Carry out a road test to allow the PCM to remember the data.
