Because Troubleshooting actually begins with the start of the repair, the following procedure is recommended:

1. Check if you understand the customer's complaint. If necessary, reproduce the problem condition on the vehicle.

2. If the problem cannot be reproduced, perform a road test and/or visual inspection using the following table:

Mechanical factors:
  • Visibly damaged or worn parts
  • Loose or missing bolts and nuts

3. If the problem can be clearly identified during the visual check, it should be corrected and then checked to see if the system is operating correctly.

4. If you cannot clearly identify the problem, use the Symptom Table to identify the problem.

PINPOINT TEST A: GEARSHIFT NO FREEDOM

A1: INSPECT GEAR SHIFT LEVER.

1 Disconnect the shift and select cables from the shift lever.

• Is the shift lever difficult to operate?

Yes

Disassemble the shift lever and check it for defective parts. For more information, refer to the Gear Shift Mechanism, Disassembly and Assembly available in this section..

No

Go to A2

A2:

1 Disconnect the select and shift cables from the transmission.

• Is the shift lever difficult to operate?

Yes

Replace select and shift cables.

No

There is a problem in the gearbox. See Section 308-03A / 308-03B / 308-03C for more information.
