Fuel injection advance — testing methods and adjustment methods (Transit 2)

            0

1. Injection adjustment is only necessary if the high-pressure fuel pump or the toothed drive belt have been damaged. In other cases, no adjustment is required.

2. Checking the injection advance is done simply by using clamps to block the crankshaft, camshaft timing pulley and fuel pump timing pulley. To check, you will need crankshaft and fuel pump toothed pulley locks; a camshaft timing pulley locking tool is also required for adjustment.

3. The clamps can be purchased separately (as special Ford tools), as well as in standard kits for car enthusiasts. In a pinch, a rod or drill of a suitable diameter will also work. Ford special tool numbers and diameters are as follows: Crankshaft (Ford 23-020): 13 mm; Camshaft: (Ford 21-123): 8 mm; Fuel pump: Lucas/CAV and early Bosch: (Ford 23-019) 6 mm; Bosch produced since 1989. (Ford 23-029): 9 mm

4. Read the following sections before you begin to find out what you will need.
