Caution: The maximum speed limit screw is only installed on certain versions of the high pressure fuel pump and is sealed by the manufacturer at the factory using paint or wire. The screw should not require adjustment. Do not touch the screw if the vehicle is still under warranty, otherwise the warranty will be void. This adjustment requires the use of a tachometer - refer to Chapter 1 to search for alternative methods. In all cases, contact your Ford dealer or fuel injection specialist before attempting the adjustment procedures below.
1. Warm up the engine.
2. Have an assistant fully depress the accelerator pedal and check the maximum engine speed as indicated in Specifications. Do not keep the engine at maximum speed for more than two to three seconds.
3. If adjustment is necessary, stop the engine, then loosen the lock nut, turn the maximum frequency limiting screw as necessary, and retighten the lock nut (see figure 4.3).

4. Repeat the procedures in paragraph 2 to check the adjustment.
5. Stop the engine and disconnect the tachometer.
