Solenoid valve — description, removal and installation (Transit 2)

Warning: Be careful. to prevent dirt from getting into the fuel pump during this procedure.


Description



1. The electromagnetic valve is installed on the high-pressure fuel pump (see Figure 6.1) in order to reduce the fuel supply when the ignition is turned off. If the circuit is broken, the engine cannot start because the fuel does not reach the injectors.

Removal



2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

3. Remove the rubber boot (if it is installed), unscrew the retaining nut and disconnect the wire at the top of the valve.

4. After cleaning the surface around the valve, unscrew and pull it out, remove the sealing washer or O-ring (if installed). Remove the plunger and valve spring if they remain in the pump.

Installation



5. Install in the reverse order of removal, using a new seal washer or O-ring.
