Water Pump (1.6L Duratec) — Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.

2. Remove the engine splash guard.



3. Loosen the water pump pulley mounting bolts.



4. Remove the accessory drive belt

• 1. Turn the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise.
• 2. Remove the accessory drive belt from the idler pulley.

5. Remove the water pump pulley.



6. Remove the water pump (for clarity, the crankshaft pulley is shown removed). Discard the gasket as it is no longer needed.

Installation

NOTE: Install a new water pump gasket.

Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
