Distributor injection pump VP-30: 1 - vane pump; 2 - steering angle sensor; 3 - roller ring; 4 - Pump control unit (PCU); 5 - plug connection; 6 - axial piston; 7 - high pressure electromagnetic valve; 8 - pressure valve; 9 - electromagnetic valve for adjusting the start of injection (FITS); 10 - injection advance angle change mechanism; 11 - cam disc; 12 - pulse sensor wheel.

In conventional distributor injection pumps, the fuel pump's job is performed by a vane pump. It is located directly in the round opening in the pump housing. Since this is a suction and pressure pump, the same pump also transports the diesel fuel into the immediate pressure area of the distributor injection pump.
