Removal of air from the brake system

            0

The air in the brake system turns each brake into an air pump, so bleed the system immediately, for example after all work that required the removal of brake hoses or pipes. It is often sufficient to bleed only the brake circuit in which work has been carried out. But for the sake of a guarantee, pump all the same both brake circuits. ALWAYS use new brake fluid (specification DOT4 ESD - М6С57А) and clean transparent synthetic hose (for windshield washer systems or for aquarium air supply). Also, have an assistant assist you. Place your Focus on a level surface. During the entire bleeding process, keep the tank constantly filled up to the MAX mark. The brake fluid level must never fall below the MIN·mark. If this does happen, then air will again enter the system through the filling holes.

Place a receiving container about 30 cm (X) above the bleed valve. Then the brake fluid will exert pressure on the bleed valve and air will not be able to enter the brake system through the valve threads.

Follow that. so that brake fluid does not get on the varnish surface. Otherwise, immediately wash the surface with clean water. Otherwise, the varnish will fade and soon peel off.

Stages of work

Disconnect the lock cover connector. To do this, pull off the fastening loop 1 and press down the clip 2. Unscrew the cover.

Central connector, expansion tank

Sequence of actions: bleeding valve on the left in front - on the right in the back; bleed valve right front - left rear.

Remove dust caps from bleed valves, clean valve nipples.

Slide the synthetic hose over the nipple (arrow) and lower the free end of the hose into a container with a small amount of brake fluid.

Bleed valve with attached hose

Loosen the bleed valve nipple a maximum of one turn. Have your assistant slowly depress the brake pedal to the floor and quickly release it.

Wait about 3 seconds, the brake master cylinder should refill.

Repeat this process on each wheel until no more air bubbles come out of the bleed valve and clean brake fluid comes out. Keep the brake pedal on the floor.

Close the bleed valve - release the pedal. Remove the hose from the bleed valve, add brake fluid in the expansion tank to the Max mark.

Fill the expansion tank, screw on the cap and connect the central connector.

During a cautious journey, check the functioning of the brakes.
