The switch serves to amplify the signal that occurs at the moment the Hall effect disappears, controls the interruption of the primary circuit of the ignition coil, and also adjusts the time of appearance of the Hall effect depending on the engine speed, thus maintaining a practically constant value of the ignition spark energy.
The 1.6 dm³ engines use a Lucas ignition system, in which the ignition distributor does not have ignition advance angle regulators. This function is performed by a switch based on signals about the engine speed and vacuum in its intake manifold.
