Lucas Ignition System
1 – ignition coil, 2 – ignition switch, 3 – ignition distributor housing, 4 – drive gear, 5 – ignition distributor shaft, 6 – Hall sensor, 7 – sensor rotor, 8 – distributor rotor, 9 – ignition distributor cap
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery from the vehicle's electrical system.
2. Disconnect the high voltage wires from the spark plugs and distributor and remove the high voltage distributor.
3. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC. To do this, rotate the engine crankshaft by hand to the position in which the distributor rotor is positioned opposite the contact of the 1st cylinder in the high-voltage distributor of the ignition distributor.
4. Mark this position of the distributor rotor relative to the ignition distributor housing to facilitate further installation of the ignition distributor.
5. Unscrew the ignition distributor housing mounting bolt and remove the ignition distributor.
Installation
1. Check whether the piston of the 1st cylinder is at TDC (alignment of the corresponding mark on the pulley with the constant mark (see Fig. Control signs for setting the ignition timing angle).
2. Insert the ignition distributor into the hole in the engine cylinder block, insert the ignition distributor mounting bolt, but do not tighten it.
3. Check the alignment of the mark on the distributor housing with the position of the distributor rotor, which corresponds to the position opposite the contact of the 1st cylinder of the high-voltage distributor.
4. Connect the high voltage wires to the spark plugs and high voltage distributor.
5. Connect the battery to the vehicle's electrical system.
6. Set the ignition timing using a strobe lamp (see subsection 4.1.3.5).
