General information about the interior heating system (Scorpio 2)

Fresh air from the bottom of the heating system is sucked in through the grille under the windshield and fed into the car by the heater fan. The air passes through the heater housing and is directed to the corresponding air nozzles using various flaps. The flaps are controlled using Bowden cables. If the heating system is turned on (warm), the cold air is directed through the heat exchanger, where it is heated. The heat exchanger is located in the heater housing and is heated by the hot liquid of the engine cooling system. The flowing air is heated by the hot plates of the heat exchanger and then fed into the car.

An increase in air flow through the heat exchanger is provided by a three-mode fresh air fan. Additional resistances are included so that the fan can rotate at different speeds in each mode.

The resistors are located in the fan connector. If a defect occurs, the connector must be replaced as a whole. The heater housing and fan are installed in the passenger compartment under the instrument panel.

Special equipment: air conditioning system

The air conditioning system can lower the temperature of the air inside the vehicle below the temperature outside the vehicle. In addition, the air humidity inside the vehicle decreases when the air conditioning system is in operation. The air conditioning compressor is driven by a V-belt from the engine crankshaft, which is checked as part of routine maintenance and must be replaced if worn, see the "Maintenance" section. Repairs to the air conditioning system must be carried out at a service station.

Caution: Do not open the refrigerant circuit of the air conditioning system or perform welding work near it, as leaking refrigerant may cause harm to health and lead to injury.
