Locations of possible engine oil leaks and their identification

Possible engine oil leaks:

• porous or damaged oil filler cap gasket;
• connecting the crankcase ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover;
• cylinder head cover seal;
• cylinder head gasket;
• mating surface of the ignition distributor;
• oil filter rubber gasket;
• oil pan gasket;
• crankshaft seals.

Engine oil leak detection method

1. Check engine oil level and top up if necessary.

2. Wash engine thoroughly with engine cleaner.

3. Places where oil leakage is supposed to be covered with a thin layer of talc or powder and test drive for a distance of 30 km.

4. Examine the engine and, by the presence of fresh smudges, determine the location of the oil leak and eliminate the cause that led to the oil leak.
