NOTE: Before installing new gaskets or oil seals, make sure the fault is clearly identified.
If the oil leak cannot be clearly identified by inspection, perform a check using a UV tester.
Testing using ultraviolet light
1. Clean the engine and transaxle using a suitable cleaning fluid.
2. Fill the test fluid through the oil filler neck according to the manufacturer's instructions and replace the oil filler cap.
Warning: For vehicles with a manual transmission in the drive axle box, set the transmission in the drive axle box to neutral. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
3. Start the engine and let it run for approximately five minutes.
4. Turn off the engine.
NOTE: If no leak is found, road test the vehicle under various load conditions and recheck the engine for leaks.
5. Check the engine for oil leaks using a suitable ultraviolet leak detector.
6. Eliminate the causes of any leaks found and check the engine for oil leaks.
