Tailgate hinge attached to the roof (Hathback body)

1. Open the rear door, unscrew the 11 screws and remove the interior upholstery panel.

2. Disconnect the wires from the rear defroster, aerial amplifier, blocking solenoid and rear wiper motor.

3. Tie a thin cord to the end of each wire, then remove the grommet of the hole and remove the wires from the door. Untie the cord from the wires and leave it in the tailgate to re-tighten the wires into the door.

4. Disconnect the rear window washer pipe.

5. Disconnect the two gas-filled stops from the tailgate, while the assistant should support the door.

6. Close the hole for the door lock with a board or thick cardboard and lower the door.

7. Remove rear door hinge covers.

8. Unscrew the nuts securing the door hinges to the roof and remove the rear door.

9. Install the rear door in the opening, while the hinges should enter the holes.

11. Install the gas-filled stops on the spherical heads and secure with brackets.

12. Tighten the hinge nuts without completely tightening.

13. Tie the wires and washer hose to the cord and pull them into the door.

14. Connect wires and hose.

15. Close the door and adjust its position so that the clearance around the perimeter is the same throughout the entire door, then tighten the fastening nuts to the required torque.

16. Install rear door interior trim.

Station wagon

1. On models with a station wagon body, the rear door is removed and installed in the same way as on models with a Hathback body (see above), except for some differences.

2. Remove the rear window trim, which is attached with eight screws.

3. The tailgate trim is secured with fourteen screws.

4. To access the door hinge nuts, it is necessary to unscrew the rear part of the headlining, therefore it is recommended to leave the door hinges in place and unscrew the bolts (indicated by arrows) attaching the door to the hinges.
