Intake manifold — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Removal

WARNING: Do not smoke or carry a lighted cigarette or open flame of any type when working on or near fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present in such situations and may ignite. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury.

1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Section 310-00 for additional information.

2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.

3. Disconnect the fuel supply and return line quick release couplings. Refer to Section 310-00 for additional information.



4. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet pipe from the throttle body.



5. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body and place it aside.

• 1. Disconnect the outer casing of the accelerator cable from the throttle body bracket.
• 2. Disconnect the inner accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.

6. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line from the intake manifold.



7. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose from the intake manifold. Release the coolant hose from the clamp.



8. Disconnect the engine wiring harness plug connector.





9. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor (CMP) connector.



10. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector.



11. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector.



12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.



13. Remove the lower intake manifold mounting bolts.



14. Lower the vehicle.

15. Remove the intake manifold.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Install a new intake manifold gasket if necessary.

Install the intake manifold.



2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

3. Install the lower intake manifold mounting bolts (engine shown removed for clarity).





4. Lower the vehicle.

5. Connect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector.



6. Connect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector.



7. Connect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor connector.



8. Connect the engine wiring harness plug connector.





9. Connect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose to the intake manifold. Secure the coolant hose.



10. Connect the brake booster vacuum line to the intake manifold.



11. Connect the accelerator cable to the throttle body.

• 1.Connect the inner accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.
• 2.Connect the outer casing of the accelerator cable to the throttle body bracket.

12. Connect the air cleaner outlet pipe to the throttle body.





13. Connect the fuel supply and return line quick release couplings. Refer to Section 310-00 for additional information.



14. Connect the ground cable to the battery. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.
