Withdrawal


1. Remove the cylinder head. For more information, refer to the Cylinder Head chapter available in this section.

NOTE: Insert wooden wedges into the combustion chamber recesses in the cylinder head so that the valves are held in place when removed.


Connect the special tool.



3.
NOTE: Arrange the valves in order for reassembly.


Remove valve springs.
  • Compress the valve springs.
  • Remove crackers, plates of springs and springs.
  • Raise the cylinder head and remove the valves, working from underneath.



4. Remove seals from valve stems. Use special tool 303-508.


Installation


1.
NOTE: Follow abrasive manufacturer's recommendations.


NOTE: Reinstall in the position in which they were removed.


Regrind the valves using an abrasive tool.

2. Thoroughly clean all elements to remove all traces of sealant and abrasive.

3. Lubricate the valve stems with engine oil and install the valves.

4.
CAUTION: Valve stem seals for intake valves are green and for exhaust valves are brown.


Install new valve stem seals.
  • Apply engine oil to the valve stem.
  • Close the groove on the valve stem with a bushing to install the seal on the valve stem.
  • Push the valve stem seal onto the valve stem.



5. Install the valve springs and valve spring caps.
  • Compress the valve spring and remove the packing sleeve from the valve stem.
  • Using the special tool, insert the valve stem cotters.



6. Disconnect the special tool.



7. Install the cylinder head. For more information, refer to the Cylinder Head chapter available in this section.
