Removal
All cars
1. Remove the battery cover.
- 1. Release the lid.
- 2. Remove the battery cover.

2. Disconnect the battery ground wires.
- 1. Disconnect the auxiliary ground wires.
- 2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

3. Disconnect the battery power cables.
- 1. Disconnect the auxiliary power wires.
- 2. Disconnect the battery power cable.

4. Release the battery wires from the clamp.

5. Disconnect the battery ground wire from the battery tray (for clarity, the battery is shown removed).

Cars with 1.4L or 1.6L engine (100 hp)
6. Disconnect the air filter and secure it to the side.

Cars with 1.6L (90 hp), 1.8L or 2.0L engine.
7. Disconnect the air cleaner outlet pipe from the air cleaner and place it aside.

8. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector.

9. Remove the air filter and place it aside.

All cars
10. Disconnect the ground wire.

11. Disconnect the starter solenoid connector.

12. Disconnect the engine ground wire.

Cars with 1.4L or 1.6L engine (100 hp)
13. Disconnect the electrical connections of the starter solenoid.

14. Disconnect the battery electrical connection.

15. Remove the battery wires.
Cars with 1.6L (90 hp), 1.8L or 2.0L engine.
16. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.
17. Remove the engine protection.

18. Disconnect the starter electrical connections.

19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Disconnect the electrical connection of the generator.

21. Remove the battery cable.
Installation
1. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
