Checking and replacing battery wires

            0

1. Periodically check the battery wires along their entire length for damage, cracks, burnt insulation and corrosion. Weak wiring causes difficulty starting the engine, reduces its service life.

2. Check the contact points of the wires with the battery terminals. A white flaky deposit under the insulator and at the point of contact of the terminals with the wire indicates corrosion of the wire and the need to replace it.

The terminals must not be frayed, have traces of corrosion: the fixing bolts must be in place.

3. When changing wires, always disconnect first and connect the wire to the negative pole last, otherwise you can short-circuit the battery with a tool. Even if you have to change only one wire from the positive contact, still first of all disconnect the wire from the negative terminal.

4. Disconnect and remove wires. Make sure the new wire is exactly the same length and diameter as the one that was removed.

5. Clean the threaded connections with a wire brush (relay, earth connection") traces of rust and corrosion. Apply a light coat of grease to the threads to help prevent further corrosion.

6. Connect the wire to the relay or to "mass", securely tighten the fixing nuts/bolts.

7. Before connecting a new cable to the battery, make sure that it is long enough to reach the terminal without stretching.

8. First connect the cable to the positive pole, then to the negative.
