Selector lever cable adjustment

You will most often recognize a changed selector lever cable setting already when the engine is started: the engine does not start in the selector lever position «R» and/or «N». While driving, your distrust should cause large pauses in gear shifting or uncomfortable jerks when shifting. If you see these symptoms in your Focus with an automatic transmission, check the selector lever cable.

Stages of work

Put the selector lever in position «D».

Raise the vehicle securely.

Open the cable lock by turning it to the right. After that, the cable should become fully movable.



To be sure that the gearbox is actually in position «D», check if the travel stage sensor matches the shift lever shaft (arrow).



After that, carefully hang the cable. The selector lever cable must not be under tension (markings of the step sensor and the lever - switching shaft - must match). Check this by lightly moving the switch shaft.

You can now close the cable lock by turning it to the left.
