Throttle cable replacement

The connection between the accelerator pedal and the throttle valve in Focus diesel engines provides «electric cable», special term - «drive-by-wire». All Focus models with petrol engines use a mechanical cable. By itself, an inconspicuous detail, but if the throttle cables are not laid perfectly in the engine compartment, then they can be unnerving. For example, when they are reluctant to move and the gas pedal is hard to move because of this: in the extreme case, the engine howls at every gear change, because the throttle return spring is too overloaded due to the heavy cable travel. If you are aware of these symptoms, look for hidden throttle cable routing and lubricate it with a few drops of oil in all turning mechanisms - immediately after washing the engine.

Dismantle the air filter suction hose to the engine.

Remove the throttle cable from the bracket. To do this, turn the outer part of the cable 1, release the fastening clip 2 and remove the inner part of the cable 3 from the throttle body.



Press the throttle cable out of the clip.


Remove the lining in the leg area.

Remove the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal (arrow).



To facilitate installation, attach a cord to the cable.

Remove the throttle cable.

Install the new cable in reverse order. Important: before the cable is inserted into the rubber bushing, the bushing must be inserted into the front wall. Lightly rub the rubber bushing with petroleum jelly before installation.
