Car Model Representation

Since 1998 visually rather conservative «Golf class» enriched with an alternative look: the newcomer is called the Focus - since then, the Focus in Ford has been called the Escort. About two years after its debut, the Focus is still emphasizing its independent appearance: it follows the form language of the new facets created in the Ford design house.

Since its launch, the Focus has unquestionably led production at Ford - until March 2000, around 120,000 buyers in Germany alone chose the Focus. According to professional car experts, a very understandable decision: Focus passed the comparative tests in all the leading European car dealerships with the best scores - it shone on the winner's podium. In addition, Focus is decorated with an award «1999 car».

The Focus, meanwhile, comes in four body styles as a three- and five-door sloping rear model, as a four-door sedan with a stepped rear end, and - in a five-door combi variant - as the Focus Turnier. With the Focus, Ambiente, Trend and Ghia trim packages, and with six engine options, Ford solves most of the transport tasks required in this class.

And to continue the success story, the 2000 Ford adds other technical innovations to the Focus. Its once-exciting list of optional equipment now includes, for example, an electronic stability program (ESP). ESP supports the driver in critical situations through targeted intervention in the running gear. The control electronics checks approximately 150 times per second whether the driving characteristics really correspond to the steering movements of the driver.

If this is not the case, the ESP sensors turn on the green light of the stabilizing control electronics: by targeted braking of individual wheels, it immediately supports the chassis, if necessary, it briefly adapts the engine power to the state of motion. Ford optionally combines ESP with Zetec petrol engines ranging from 1.6L to 2.0L. In addition, units with a displacement of 1.8 and 2.0 liters are combined with ASR (traction control system).
