At a glance — an overview of the Focus models

            0

The range of models is well-suited to a wide range of applications: Slant-back Focuses coming off production lines, three-door and five-door, stepped rear variants exclusively as five-door models - Turnier mostly hits the road with five doors. Here is an overview of the models:
  • Focus - price oriented option
  • Focus Ambiente - comfortable option
  • Focus Trend - sporty option
  • Focus Ghia - luxury option
  • Focus Turnier - practical option

Great things like airbags for the driver and passenger next to the driver, as well as side airbags, seat belt pretensioners and locking mechanisms, electronic vehicle immobilizer, height adjustable driver's seat, folding rear seat, power steering, adjustable steering column, a cabin dust filter, an RPM meter, a digital clock or green heat-shielding glass, all of which have been standard on the Focus since 2000.

Focus - the choice of a sober-minded person

Price oriented variant exists exclusively as a three-door version with a 1.4L displacement Zetec-SE engine (55 kW/75 hp). The desire to enrich the basic Focus with additional equipment can only be fulfilled to a very limited extent. Focus consistently focuses - entirely in the spirit of a decent price - on the essential. In its tradition, Ford lays out «significant» generously (see standard equipment), but this does not include a full spare tire.

Focus Ambiente is the first choice for comfort oriented shoppers

With the exception of the sports suspension, the comfortably designed Ambiente offers basically the equipment level of the Trend version. Ambiente buyers get their Focus exclusively with five doors. As an alternative drive, Ford offers a Zetec-SE engine with a displacement of 1.4 liters (55 kW/75 hp), Zetec E with a displacement of 1.8 liters (85 kW/115 hp) and two new turbodiesel engines with a displacement of 1.8 liters and 55 kW (75 HP) or 66 kW (90 HP). Both motors operate on the DI principle. Buyers distinguish Ambiente outwardly by the outline of its name, otherwise it differs slightly from the Focus and Trend models.

Focus Trend - the choice of sporty drivers

The Focus Trend does honor to its name - the Trend variant is currently the best-selling model. In addition to extensive standard equipment, including a skilfully tuned sports suspension, Trend buyers can choose between two special Trend packages: The Trend 1 has 6 J x 15-inch light metal wheels including 195 tires, headrest on the back of the rear seat. The Trend II has 6 J x 16-inch light metal wheels and 205/50 R 16-inch tires.

Focus Chia - the choice of buyers who prefer paid luxury

Ghia is in line with Ford's vision of luxury: Ghia, using the Focus as an example, stands for Ambiente with a plus: for example... air conditioning... electrically heated and adjustable exterior mirror, lacquered to match the car's color, chrome interior door handles plus... two color dashboard. Outwardly, Ghia customers recognize the top Focus model by the swashes, the chrome strip on the front bumper, the Ghia-typical wheel covers, the chrome-plated trunk handle and, when the doors are open, the entry strips with the Ghia emblem.

But even a cursory glance into the cabin speaks of a noble variant: Ghia pampers the eye with wooden appliqués on the dashboard, doors and center console. A four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel crowns the workplace. There are velor covers on the seats, the driver's seat - with adjustable support for the spine - also with electric height adjustment. The back of the rear seat, folding in the ratio of 1/3 to 2/3, if necessary, is divided by an intermediate armrest into two comfortable separate seats.

Customers of the Focus Ghia are not only pleased with the looks, but also with the practicality: they unlock their car at the push of a button using the remote control.

Focus Turnier - the choice of practical buyers

Including the base 1.4-litre Focus, Ford combines the practical Tumier with all trim levels, all engines and automatic transmission. Exception: Blitz-Turnier with 2.0L Zetec-E engine and Ambiente package cannot be bought at any price.

Selection program - types of special equipment

Focus buyers are relieved from the pain of choice right from the factory: not all possible special equipment types can be combined within engine classes and equipment levels. For example, both comfort packages or heated windshield washer sprayers, including a heated windshield, are only available in the Trend version. The safety package and styling are still a dream come true for Focus buyers, not to mention the winning Trend I, Trend II or Tumier variant. But the Focus has a package for non-smokers with a receiving pocket instead of an ashtray and a connection to a power source instead of a cigarette lighter. Only Ghia retains an on-board computer with data on fuel consumption, time and mileage, as well as an indication of the external temperature and a light signal for frost. With different choices, it's worth comparing prices at an accessory store. For example, trailer couplers or roof racks with different attachments. Although it's best for Focus buyers to order the base carrier system from Ford dealers, it will provide the required safety base for subsequent add-ons - at least when professionally installed.
