Models up to 8/93
Note: for models with 9/93, the idle speed is controlled by the electronic control unit and does not require manual adjustment.
Warm up the engine to operating temperature so that the engine oil temperature is at least +80°C.
Turn off the engine and connect a crankshaft speed measuring device in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Since diesel engines do not have an ignition system, a special device is required to measure the crankshaft speed.
Turn off all electrical consumers (radio, lighting, etc.) and the air conditioning system.
Start the engine and let it idle. Apply the handbrake.
Checking the maximum speed
Ask an assistant to press the accelerator pedal to the position at which maximum crankshaft speed is achieved.
Caution: Do not hold the accelerator pedal in this position for more than five seconds. The maximum rotation speed should be 4800±50 1/min.
Attention: If the maximum crankshaft speed is not achieved, you must contact a service station to adjust it.
Checking the idle speed and lag time
Set the maximum crankshaft speed.
Release the accelerator pedal and measure the time it takes to reach idle speed. Specified value: less than five seconds.
Measure the crankshaft speed at idle. The prescribed value with the DPC injection pump: 775±25 1/min; with DPCR injection pump: 875±25 1/min.
Adjusting the idle speed

To adjust the idle speed, loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting bolt "arrow" to set the correct value. After setting the correct speed, lock the adjusting bolt again.
Adjusting the delay time
If the delay time is not set correctly, the idle speed is adjusted first, and then the delay time.
Disconnect the gas rod from the fuel injection pump lever.

Install the FORD 23-016 idle speed adjustment gauge on the idle speed adjustment bolt. If the gauge is not available, clamp a 3 mm feeler gauge or drill bit between the fuel injection pump lever and the adjustment bolt.
Start the engine and read the rotation speed value. The prescribed value is 900±30 1/min.
Turn the adjusting bolt to set the specified idle speed. After setting the correct idle speed, lock the adjusting bolt again.
Attach the gas rod to the fuel injection pump lever.
Check again and adjust idle speed if necessary.
