Removal the engine (Scorpio 1)

            0

The engine is removed without the gearbox upwards from the engine compartment using a lifting mechanism. It is also possible to remove the engine together with the gearbox, however, this is much more difficult, since it requires installing the car on a lift and using an additional lift to lower the engine together with the gearbox downwards, having first disconnected and removed the units that prevent the power unit from lowering.

1. Remove the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the crankcase guard and mudguard.

3. Remove the radiator grille.

4. Disconnect the hood release cable from the hood closing mechanism and remove it from the clips.

5. Remove the bonnet, first marking the position of the hinges to facilitate reinstallation and disconnecting the windscreen washer pipe.

6. Unscrew the three screws and remove the throttle valve cover.

7. Remove the air cleaner cover, air flow meter and air intake manifold.

8. Remove the oil filler cap.

9. Unscrew the bolts and remove the upper part of the fan shroud.

10. Drain the coolant from the cooling system by placing a suitable container under the radiator drain plug and opening the drain plug located at the bottom of the radiator. To speed up the draining of the coolant, open the expansion tank plug. To drain the coolant from the cylinder block, unscrew the drain bolt located in the cylinder block.

11. Disconnect the cooling system hoses from the heater radiator.

12. Remove the fan with the viscous clutch.

13. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line from the intake manifold.

14. Disconnect electrical wires and remove connectors from the following units and sensors:
  • generator;
  • starter;
  • temperature sensor;
  • engine management system temperature sensor;
  • oil pressure sensor;
  • electromagnetic valve on the high pressure fuel pump;
  • throttle position sensor;
  • electromagnetic fan clutch;
  • idle speed valve;
  • distributor;
  • injectors;
  • radiator temperature sensor.

15. Disconnect the ground wire from the engine.

16. Disconnect the accelerator cable, automatic transmission downshift cable, or downshift solenoid switch.

17. Depressurize the fuel system and disconnect the fuel supply and return hoses.

18. Remove the auxiliary power steering and air conditioning drive belts. Unscrew the air conditioning pump and compressor and hang them from the body using soft wire without disconnecting the hoses from them.

19. Remove the distributor cap and rotor along with the wires.

20. Remove the starter.

21. Drain the engine oil and remove the filter.

22. Remove the clutch cable.

23. Unscrew the front downpipe from the exhaust manifold.

24. On vehicles with automatic transmission, unscrew the torque converter from the drive disc.

25. Install the engine hoist and lift the engine, then unscrew the engine holders.

26. Carefully lift the engine using a lifting mechanism and unscrew the engine mounting bracket from the supports.

27. Unscrew the rear engine shield.

28. Unscrew the clutch housing mounting bolts.

29. Support the gearbox using a suitable lift and a wide board and raise the gearbox slightly.

30. Using a lifting mechanism, carefully lift the engine and separate the gearbox from it.

31. Remove the engine from the engine compartment.
