Changing the oil in the gearbox

            0

The design of the gearbox does not provide for oil changes during the entire life of the vehicle. However, the need to change the oil may arise, for example, when switching to an oil of a different viscosity, when repairing a gearbox, etc.

Note. It is recommended to drain the oil within 15 minutes after the trip, until it has cooled down and has good fluidity.

You will need: socket wrench «at 19», hex key «for 8», syringe, wide container for draining oil.

Note. Fill the gearbox with oil recommended by the manufacturer to Ford specifications. If it is not available, Castrol or Mobil gear oils of API GL-4/5 SAE 80W-90 quality class can be used as a substitute.

Note. If the vehicle is operated for a long time at an ambient temperature below -30°C, we recommend replacing the oil filled at the factory with SAE 75W gear oil.

1. Remove the crankcase protection (if available).

2. Remove the shift cover (see «Replacing the transmission control cables»).

Note. With a device to collect the leaking oil (for example, curly funnel) gearshift cover can not be removed.

3. Unscrew the oil drain plug, having previously placed a container under the hole, and drain the oil into it. Wait for the oil to drain completely (at least 15 min), and close the cap.

Note. There is a magnet on the oil drain plug (shown in the photo with an arrow). Inspect it and clean it of adhering metal particles and dirt. The presence of a large number of metal particles on the magnet indirectly indicates a malfunction of the gearbox. In this case, check and, if necessary, repair the box.

4. Remove the oil filler plug..

5.... and fill the gearbox with oil up to the lower edge of the oil filler hole (oil will begin to flow out of the hole).

6. Remove oil drips with a rag and wrap the oil filler plug.

7. Install all previously removed parts in reverse order.
